Plasma Light Technology

Ceravision's plasma grow-light, delivers a unique UV spectrum of UV-B, UV-A and blue light. The UV420 plasma grow-light delivers the UV vital for producing crops with real quality and value and high yields. In greenhouses, glass blocks solar UV-B and other grow-lights cannot provide it.  This is why indoor tomatoes and strawberries for example don't taste the same as when grown outdoors. The UV420 is designed specifically to complement PAR grow-lights to deliver a more complete solar spectrum that helps plants optimise their genetic potential.

UV-B is also important for humans, but not too much of it!. When skin is exposed to sunlight, it makes vitamin D from cholesterol. Vitamin D is a steroid hormone naturally produced in the skin particularly in summer months due to higher levels of and exposure to UVB light.  UV-B in solar radiation hits the cholesterol in the skin cells, providing the energy for vitamin D synthesis to occur. Vitamin D has many roles in the body and is essential for optimal health.

HEP technology is a genre of electrodeless, radio frequency (RF) driven lighting invented by Ceravision. HEP uses RF in the microwave range to create a high intensity plasma discharge. The proprietary plasma burner is designed to efficiently collect and distribute the light produced. HEP plasma comprises four key elements:

The burner contains an inert gas and metal halide salts. Microwaves resonating in the lamp ionize the gas to form a plasma that vaporises the salts to create an intense light.  Emitted from such a small source, the light can be accurately focussed and distributed to maximise optical performance.  This method of producing light uses less energy and delivers more light of a better quality.

Plasma Grow-Lights
Output UV-B, UV-A and Blue Light
Ceravision demonstrate its UV420 plasma grow-light - a UV grow-light with UV-B, UV-A and blue light.

In HEP, the absence of electrodes or filaments, enables the use of chemicals, which if used in electrode lamps would react with electrodes to diminish output and shorten life. By careful selection of chemical dose components, HEP can deliver intense and variable radiation across the spectrum.

The spectral output of this UV grow-light can be simply tailored to output different UV-B/UV-A/Blue combinations to suit specific plants, growing cycles or targeted outcomes.

This unique UV light lends is ideal for other applications where UV light really adds value including lighting for: Reptile Houses; Artificial Coral Growth; Insect Breeding; and for sterilisation.
